Bern Heimos is a friend of mine who owns a small little airplane called a Piper J3 Cub. Every year he takes the plane on an extended trip around the USA with the sole purpose of having an adventure. He roughly plans out his flight path, but each day the atmosphere throws curve balls at him in the form of weather and winds, so he’s never exactly sure where he will end up for that night’s sleep.
Bern’s passions are flying and photography. He’s photo-blogging his trip here: http://www.vintageflying.com/. He and I have known each other for years and he’s always bending my ear about technique, method, approach, cameras, lenses and on and on. His face is always lit up with excitement and I love his enthusiasm. It is infectious and encourages me to get out and continue following my dreams.
Today, Bern is flying over Washington State’s beautiful Palouse region. Before he left on his adventure he asked me for photo location suggestions and has been sending me images of his daily shots. I’m wishing I was with him doing the same thing!
Bern is following his dreams. Are you?
I’ve just returned from a week long trip to Alaska where I worked with a team at a Youth Camp in Unalakleet. I’ll be writing up a full report in this month’s newsletter. Until then, here are a few shots of Alaska from the air to hold you over.
